Lausanne, March 13, 2008 – A number of important proposals were approved by the Board of Administration on the second day of the 2008 meeting led by FIVB President Dr. Rubén Acosta. Controls on the number of Club players coming from other National Federations, rules to sanction Clubs not respecting players’ salary payments and National Team activities and the use of a new ball at the Beijing Olympic Games were agreed on Thursday and will be forwarded to the 31st FIVB World Congress.

Important proposals made at opening session of FIVB Board of Administration to be forwarded for approval at 31st World Congress
Lausanne, March 12, 2008 – Dr. Rubén Acosta, President of the FIVB, opened the 2008 Board of Administration meeting Wednesday in the new FIVB Boardroom in Lausanne. For the first time in many years, the Presidents of the Commissions were requested to make their presentations during the Board in order for all members to immediately discuss the proposals before they are forwarded for approval at the 31st FIVB World Congress.
After welcoming all members, the President stressed that the objectives of the meeting were to discuss transparency in FIVB finance and accounting changes, to consolidate FIVB solidarity and respect of its principles, to acknowledge and capitalize on the growth of the FIVB and adjust FIVB regulations in accordance with that growth, to follow up the activities and proposals of the Commissions, and to determine the actions needed to optimise the position of Volleyball events in the sport market place. 34 Countries’ Board Members and Commission Presidents to set up new rules and regulations to reinforce Volleyball and FIVB future
Lausanne, March 7, 2008 – The 38 members of the FIVB Board of Administration and FIVB Commission Presidents shall meet in Lausanne from Wednesday 12 to Friday 14 March for the first time in the new Boardroom at “Château Les Tourelles”.
Dr. Rubén Acosta will open and preside over the annual meeting, as the FIVB President has done since 1985. Many important questions will be on the table, particularly the use of a new ball in the Beijing Olympic Games, limitation of players coming from another National Federation, new Development Centres in South Africa, Nigeria, Argentina and other countries, to consider as automatic resignation the act of National Federations who declare to have joined another organization, and, most noteworthy, the change of the Election Congress to the Olympic year. IEC signs Asian volleyball distribution deal
IEC in Sports has extended its agreement with the Asian Volleyball Federation (AVC) until 2013, to handle worldwide broadcast distribution of its events.

Japan and Argentina will compete at the Men’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Tokyo
Lausanne, March 3, 2008 – The allocation of teams for the Men’s World Olympic Qualification Tournaments was decided after the drawing of lots in Tokyo on Monday.
Algeria, Argentina, Chinese Taipei, Cuba, Indonesia, Italy, Poland, Puerto Rico found out their fate after the process conducted by FIVB First Executive Vice President Mr. Jizhong Wei at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo to decide entry to the tournaments in Tokyo, Japan, Espinho, Portugal, and Düsseldorf, Germany.
The winner of each tournament will qualify for Beijing. In Tokyo, the winner of the tournament plus the best Asian team (even if the winner is Asian) will qualify for the Games, completing the qualification process. Read the rest or post a comment »

Canada’s Last Chance Olympic Qualifier Hopes Dashed
Winnipeg, MB - For Canada’s National Indoor Volleyball teams, the road to the Beijing Olympic Games has officially come to an end. The FIVB (Fédération Internationale de Volleyball) recently announced that Team Canada will not receive berths in their respective Last-Chance Qualifier Tournaments. The last-chance qualifier tournament berths are awarded to the next best-ranked teams in the FIVB World Rankings, who have not already qualified for Beijing through the World Cup or respective zone Olympic Qualifier Tournaments. Stavanger to host 2009 SWATCH FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships presented by ConocoPhillips: “A fair battle with Moscow won by Norway,” says FIVB President
Lausanne, February 29, 2008 – FIVB President Rubén Acosta announced on Friday that the 2009 SWATCH FIVB Beach Volleyball Men’s and Women’s World Championships will be hosted in Stavanger, Norway.
“It was a long and fair battle between Moscow and Stavanger to win the bid, but in the end the experience gained by Norway in organising major Beach Volleyball events over the past few years prevailed,” said Dr. Acosta. “It will be really tough for Stavanger to present an event better than the last edition in Gstaad, but next year I’m expecting the best World Championships ever.” Read the rest or post a comment »
